While growing up in the mid 50’s and throughout the 60’s, I remember as family we would watch Billy Graham’s revival meetings on the black & white screen. Billy’s influence and my mother’s prayers brought me to Christ Jesus, accepting His forgiveness and salvation. I love the reruns today. I weep, too.
As child I would get a call from a dear lady telling my family he was on TV and to watch! The choir sang in the spirit, and he bowed his head and prayed when they came out. The crowd could see the Holy Spirit on him.
Truly a man of God who loved the lost. A man like David. A man after God’s own heart.
I am a truck driver and was returning to Denver one day when I noticed a billboard near the CO/KS state line. It contained a 3-word statement followed by a 5-word question. The impact of it struck me like an electric shock. It said this: “Life is short. Where will you spend eternity?”
I remember from my early childhood the televised Crusades that were always amazing to me. How could a preacher get so many to come to hear him speak? I eventually learned it wasn’t him they were seeking, but the message he carried.
I have fond memories–remember it as if it was yesterday–of watching the Billy Graham Crusades on TV when I was a child in the 1960’s. Mom knew when he would be on and we always watched. She gave to the ministry, her and Dad attended an Ohio crusade, and I asked the Lord to be my Lord after a TV showing.
I was born in 1953. My parents took me to a Billy Graham Crusade in 1956, at Louisville, Kentucky. In 1994, I took my wife to see another Crusade, at Atlanta, Georgia. I have collected many books authored by Billy Graham, and others who wrote about him. To me he was the finest author and preacher.
In elementary school, my friend asked me to go to see Billy Graham with her and her family. While there, people were asked if anyone would like to be baptized. I said yes and I was baptized right there! My parents were a bit sad they weren’t there to witness it but were very excited for me!
Sitting in the front row at the Billy Graham School thinking, “I don’t have the gift.” Billy stopped, looked me right in the eye, pointed his finger and said, “Just because you don’t feel you have the gift of evangelism doesn’t excuse you from sharing your faith.” God spoke. Still sharing, 30 years!
My Uncle Ovace, who has passed on now 10 years ago, was a horrible man. He was an alcoholic all his life. He abused his wife and kids. Stumbled into a Billy Graham Crusade, gave his life to Jesus and instantly stopping drinking, smoking (2 packs) and was a Christian the rest of his life. Thank You!
